Lying can be a form of aggression

Harmful lies are when people lie to hurt someone, get away with things, or get things they don’t deserve

Sometimes, people lie so they don’t hurt someone’s feelings

Set the rule - “In our family, we tell the truth”

Think about others - “How would it make you feel if someone told a lie about you?”

Teach why - “Lying is bad for relationships” or “Lying can prevent people from solving problems.”

Set future expectations - “In the future, I will be disappointed if you lie about what happened.”

Later, give praise - “I really appreciate you being honest about breaking the lamp.”

Change your daily schedule

Time-out or take away a privilege

Try to catch your child lying

If no improvement, get professional help
